John C. Putney was born, raised, and continues to lives in Dansville, NY. John graduated from Dansville Central High School in 1972. Upon graduation, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from Cornell University in 1976 and continued his education by pursuing a J.D. at Vermont Law School. John graduated from Vermont Law in 1981.

After earning his degree, John moved back to the area and began his career as an Associate for Raymond L. Sciarrino, Esq.. After working for Raymond for two years, John decided to begin his own law practice and opened his Mount Morris office in 1984. In 2002, he expanded his practice to his second location in Dansville.

Besides owning his own practice, John was at one time an Assistant District Attorney for Livingston County as well as the Public Defender for six years. John is currently the attorney for the villages of Wayland and Mount Morris as well as the Town of North Dansville.

John is admitted to practice before all New York State Courts, the Federal District Court for the Western District of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

John is a member or several professional associations: the Livingston County Bar Association, Monroe County Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, New York State Defenders Association, New York State Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, and American Bar Association.
